Holding of the third NEDO development conference by the Nakatsuji group of Kyoto University
On October 9, 2014, the third New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) development conference was held by the Nakatsuji Group at Kyoto University. It was attended by personnel from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry; NEDO; and Project Leader Dr. Nakahata. It consisted of a report on the progress of research results followed by a lively question-and-answer session, and came to a successful conclusion. The next conference is scheduled for January 21, 2015.

Holding of the first user forum by the Kino-oka and Akutsu groups
On the afternoon of October 21, 2014, the first user forum was held by the Kino-oka and Akutsu Groups of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) Project at a conference room in the Tokyo Waterfront Annex of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology. The forum attracted the participation of personnel from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the NEDO, and was a resounding success. It was held for the purpose of absorbing the needs of parties who will be the users of the project and reflecting them in the project's promotion. The participants numbered over 80, and the confab session was a scene of lively interchange.

Participation in BioJapan 2014 and attraction of more than 500 visitors
The expo BioJapan 2014 was held at Pacifico Yokohama over the period October 15 – 17, 2014. Within the booth of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), the Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) put up a panel profiling its work and the NEDO Project, distributed the SCETRA pamphlet, and exhibited culture equipment. Over the expo's three-day run, the NEDO booth attracted more than 500 visitors. Each day, the staff was kept busy all day fielding the questions of the many visitors.

Holding of the first meeting of the mesenchymal stem cell group subcommittee
On September 25, 2014, the mesenchymal stem cell group subcommittee held its first meeting in the Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) conference room. The meeting was held under the direction of project leader Dr. Nakahata and was also attended by personnel from Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Association (NEDO). It opened with remarks by President Mr. Yoshioka as representative of SCETRA. It was moderated by sub-project leader Dr. Akutsu, and was devoted to progress reports from the four working groups and the clinical application team, followed by a question-and-answer session. The approaches anticipating commercialization were given high ratings.

Holding of the second NEDO development conference by the Nakatsuji group of Kyoto University
The second New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) development conference was held by the Nakatsuji Group at Kyoto University on July 8, 2014. It was also attended by personnel from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and NEDO. It was devoted to reports on research results and progress, followed by a lively question-and-answer session, and came to a successful conclusion. The next conference is scheduled to be held on October 9.

Holding of the first joint meeting of the iPS group subcommittees, Operating Working Group, and New Technology Work Group
The first joint meeting of the iPS Group subcommittees, Operating Working Group, and New Technology Working Group was held with the participation of 35 in a conference room at the Icho Kaikan of Osaka University from 12:00 to 6:00 pm on June 16, 2014. Opening remarks by sub-project leader Dr. Kino-oka of Osaka University were followed by an outline description of implementation-level plans by each organization and lively discussion. The participants confirmed that the organizations would promote research and development in coordination with each other in the two working groups and eight sub-working groups.

Conclusion of a work commissioning contract with NEDO
On May 29, 2014, the Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) concluded a contract with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for commissioning of work on a project for "the development of cell manufacturing and processing systems for industrialization of regenerative medicine."

New SCA members and holding of a kickoff meeting
A total of nine Kyoto University Group companies became new members of the Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) effective May 13, 2014. In advance of their entry, a kickoff meeting was held for them at Kyoto University on April 25. The meeting garnered the participation of Mr. Yamazaki (director general) of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) and 50 participants, including some from academia, and was a resounding success.
On May 9, 2014, a joint kickoff meeting for themes 1 and 2 was held in the conference room at the Tokyo Midtown head office of FUJIFILM Corporation. It was also attended by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr. Esaki (director general) and NEDO Mr. Yamazaki (director general), and came to a successful conclusion. -
Selection of FUJIFILM's Yasuhiro Yoshioka as the new Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) president
At the first fiscal 2014 board meeting held on April 25, 2014, Mr. Yasuhiro Yoshioka, Corporate Vice President of FUJIFILM Corporation and General Manager of the Regenerative Medicine Research Laboratories in the R&D Management Headquarters, was selected to be the new Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) president.
SCETRA is deeply indebted to Mr. Yukinobu Kohno, Executive Officer of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd., for his long service as the previous SCETRA president. -

The Stem Cell Evaluation Technology Research Association (SCETRA) was selected for a new project by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for "the development of cell manufacturing and processing systems for industrialization of regenerative medicine."
